Ultrasound
An ultrasound scan allows pictures of the body to be taken using sound waves and can be used to look at all soft tissue structures and blood vessels. Pulses of ultrasound are sent through the skin into your body which are then bounced back from the various parts of the body, creating an image.

The Scan
At Home
Depending on the area of the body to be scanned you may be required to drink up to one and a half pints of water before attending for your appointment. Any preparation required will be explained fully in your appointment letter.
At Cornwall House Clinic
First of all our ultrasonographer will make sure you are comfortable and relaxed lying down on a couch. They will explain the procedure of the scan to you and answer any questions you might have.
The Results
We understand that waiting for the results of a test can be a worrying time. Our aim is to get accurate results back to you as quickly as possible.
The results will be sent to your referring doctor within 4 working days of the scan. You will then need to make an appointment to see your doctor to discuss the scan result.
